This koi was spotted out of the many sanke in a pond my Mr. Toshio Sakai during one of his visits here to the farm. This koi remained one of his favorites we have bred and believed there was a great future for the koi and had the expectations that she had the ability to reach a meter in length.
This koi was purchased and grown here at Quality Koi until she was yonsai.
The time came when the owner was ready to take the koi home to finish growing and get her ready to show.
When catching the koi to be packed for shipping, a small lump beside a small dent on the head was discovered. This was not apparent even a few months ago when the koi was harvested and closely examined. The recommendation was for the customer not to take the koi at that time, but leave her with us to watch what happened with the head.

Luckily, only 2 weeks after discovering the deformation on the head, Mr. Sakai had made a visit to Philadelphia. With only 15 min free between meetings, the guys packed up the sanke and drove her to Philadelphia for Mr. Sakai to evaluate her. In the middle of a parking lot the Sanke was bowled for Mr. Sakai. The small lump on the head was not longer there, but the small dent was still apparent. There is no clear answer on why this dent appeared. Mr. Sakai’s opinion was possibility it had been there since a young age and the koi is only now large enough for it to be noticed.
None the less, Mr. Sakai was still very excited about this koi. He agreed that the koi no long would be good for show, with its now noticeable deformity, but would make an excellent breeder.

With Mr. Sakai’s advice and with agreement from the owner. This sanke will be brought into our breeding program this year.
This Sanke marks a historical period for the NISEI KOI FARM, as she will be the first female koi bred by us here at NISEI KOI FARM to be used as a parent in our breeding program.
