Harvest of Kikokuryu

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

The Kikokuryu are the last tosai to be updated.

We used a Male Kujaku – due to having 3 colors – in the breeding, with hopes he would throw gold onto the babies from our female Kikokuryu. We placed a long fin male in the mix as well, with hope of long fin Kikokuryu.

After all the Main Event  koi are safely in we will return to harvesting the tosai.

ALOT is happening here at the farm this fall, so keep WATCHING!

Gin Rin Showa – Harvest

Monday, September 20th, 2010

Things here on the farm over the past few weeks have been  busy with tosai harvest, traveling to koi shows and getting the farm ready for the main event harvest.

Lets get caught back up with the tosai that have been harvested!

Next that came out are the tosai from the Gin Rin Showa spawning. These tosai were harvested at 6-8 inches.

Below the koi are photographed in groups.

The first group is Gin Rin Showa. A male Gin Rin Showa was used with a female Gin Rin Showa to simply achieve Gin Rin Showa. A male Showa was also used to pass on his high quality sumi.

Harvest of the 2010 Kohaku

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

DSC09799Harvest time is finally here at the Nisei Koi Farm. Many are looking foward to your Main Event Harvest in October, but it takes us many weeks to bring all the koi we have growing in the mud ponds into the greenhouses.

We started harvest with our 2010 Kohaku

kohaku

The koi have been harvested at 4-7 inches

We found this spawn to be sucessful. Not only did we get a number of koi of high quality, this was the first use of the Female Parent.  The use of this female is the start of the new kohaku line. This spawn did produce young with the characteristics we were hoping for.  These koi will be set aside as future parents for the next generation of this kohaku line.
