Nisei Koi Farm

Nisei Koi Farm is the product of years of incredible effort and investment. It was born from a dream that some day, high tractorclass Koi could be produced in the USA. So with that in mind, every action taken by our team at the Nisei Koi Farm is to realize this dream.

Nisei Koi Farm is the home of Quality Koi Company INC. This Company was formed over 10 years ago by Joe Zuritsky. Prior to the ground breaking of our New Jersey farm in November 2001, QKC Inc. was based in center city, Philadelphia as a retail store.

Mat McCann, Farm Manager and Breeder joined Quality Koi in July 2000 after moving from England. Mat had gained experience in the Koi industry from five different Koi stores, with Management positions in the last three.

Mat and Joe soon realized that they had very similar goals and dreams with regard to the Koi industry. The main goal was to distribute healthy, high quality Koi at a reasonable price.

Mr. Toshio Sakai, of Isawa Nishikigoi Centre, Japan is one of the top breeders in Japan. A long term relationship with him enabled us access to the very best parent Koi. He also gives ongoing mentoring during our quest. Some might say that he is the most important factor to the success of our dream.

We farm American Koi in New Jersey using a Japanese approach. We still maintain close business links with Japan as Mr. Sakai is always making improvements to aspects of his bloodline. We will continue to import and thoroughly quarantine new parent stock as often as is necessary, but only from Mr. Sakai.

Farming in NJ's climate means great seasonal changes

Spring brings spawning time for the New Year’s crop and also the start of retail and wholesale season; it’s also the time for the best of the best Koi from previous seasons to return to the mud ponds for further growth.

Summer is the heavy feeding and intensive culling time to maximize size and quality and is also the peak of the sales season.

Autumn is harvest time, this is when we seine our mud ponds harvestingand bring the best Koi into our heated greenhouses. Our main event harvest is open to the public and is the first opportunity to select from the best Koi of the year.

Every years farming cycle brings us closer to realizing our dream, and we thank all our fantastic customers, without their continuous support we could not exist.
